Professional Involvement

Jillian2Jillian has authored over 50 academic publications, presentations and other scholarly works, as well as articles and interviews for media organizations including The New York Times and Associated Press.

Jillian is a former Professor of Law & Society at Ramapo College, and former Executive Director of the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund. She has written a book on gender transition in the workplace for HR personnel, along with several book chapters, peer-reviewed social science articles, and law review articles.

Her volunteer work has included being a member of the Labor & Employment Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the founder and former Executive Director of the National Transgender Bar Association, Chair of the Transgender Law Symposium, a member of the Board of Directors of Lambda Legal, a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee of the Williams Institute, and a member of the Board of Advisors of the National Center for Transgender Equality.

She has received awards for her legal service to the community from the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York, Gay City News, Fordham Law Outlaws, LGBT Rights Committee of the NYC Bar Association, and was selected as one of the Trans 100 in 2014.
